Campaign Finance and Ethics

Do you support placing limits on the size of campaign donations for candidates running for positions on the Wake County Commission? If so, what should be the maximum amount for all categories of donations? Additionally, have you accepted contributions from the real estate industry or its executives? If yes, from which entities, and why did you accept those contributions? Please explain your position and reasoning.

Yes, I support placing reasonable limits on the size of campaign donations for candidates running for the Wake County Commission. Clear and enforceable contribution limits help reduce the influence of special interests, promote fairness, and strengthen public trust in local government. I support limits that align with or improve upon existing North Carolina campaign finance laws, with an emphasis on keeping local races accessible to community-based candidates—not just those with access to large donors. I also support stronger transparency and disclosure requirements so voters can easily see who is funding campaigns and hold candidates accountable.

Education Funding and Equity

How will you ensure that the County fully funds public schools, universal preschool, provide a living wage for support staff and supplement the salaries for teachers to provide a living wage for Wake County? What strategies would you use to address funding gaps and prioritize equity in education?

I will advocate for fully funding public education by making it a top county budget priority. With a background in early childhood development, I understand that strong early learning, universal preschool, and well-supported educators are critical to long-term student success. I will support increasing county supplements for teachers, ensuring support staff earn a living wage, and investing in quality early childhood programs.

Workforce Development and Higher Education

How will you allocate county funds to provide full coverage for community college education for high school graduates, and how will you prioritize workforce development programs, including clean energy and other high-demand sectors, to ensure equitable access and good-paying jobs?

I will support allocating county funds by prioritizing education and workforce development in the budget, with a focus on making community college education accessible and affordable for all Wake County high school graduates. By expanding last-dollar scholarship programs, tuition assistance, and support for books, transportation, and childcare, we can remove financial barriers that prevent students from completing their education.

Mental Health and Crisis Services

How will you utilize county funds to establish, expand, and fully fund Mobile Crisis services routed through Public Safety Telecommunicators and Call-Takers. to respond to mental health and substance use issues, and what steps will you take to ensure these services are accessible countywide?

To ensure countywide access, I will advocate for equitable geographic deployment of Mobile Crisis teams, including rural and underserved areas, with response time benchmarks and data tracking to monitor effectiveness. I will also support partnerships with community-based mental health providers and the use of state and federal behavioral health funds to supplement county investments.

Accountability and transparency will be priorities. I will push for clear performance metrics, community input, and regular reporting to ensure Mobile Crisis services are accessible, effective, and responsive to the real mental health needs of Wake County residents.

Climate Action and Housing

Do you support placing a bond referendum on the next Wake County ballot to fund solar panel installation on public buildings? How will you also use county funds to address affordable housing preservation, promote mixed-income developments, and advance climate resilience in vulnerable communities? Why or why not?

I believe responsible leadership means being honest about learning curves while remaining committed to solutions. I will approach these issues with transparency, data, and community input to ensure county investments support affordability, equity, and long-term resilience.

Racial Equity and Historical Accountability

How will you support the establishment of a local Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and what specific topics or systemic issues should it examine to promote racial equity and community healing?

I support the establishment of a local Truth and Reconciliation Commission as a meaningful step toward racial equity, accountability, and community healing in Wake County. As a biracial woman whose parents were civil rights advocates, I understand firsthand how historic and systemic inequities continue to shape lived experiences, trust in institutions, and access to opportunity.

I would support allocating county resources to ensure the commission is independent, community led, and inclusive, with broad public engagement and transparent reporting. The commission should examine systemic issues such as racial disparities in housing, education, public safety, health outcomes, economic opportunity, and land use and development, as well as the historical impact of displacement, segregation, and policy decisions on communities of color.

Public Health and Human Services

How will you allocate resources to fully fund County Health and Human Services programs, with attention to preventive care, substance use treatment, and reducing health disparities among marginalized populations?

To maximize impact, I will leverage state and federal funding, grants, and public–private partnerships, and use data to identify gaps and guide the equitable distribution of resources. Accountability and community input will be essential to ensure Health and Human Services programs reduce disparities, improve outcomes, and promote long-term well-being for all Wake County residents.

Transparency and Democratic Participation

How will you ensure that Wake County’s budget and policy decisions are transparent and that residents have meaningful opportunities to participate in governance, particularly communities historically excluded from decision-making?

I will advocate for meaningful community engagement by expanding outreach beyond traditional meetings—using neighborhood forums, virtual town halls, and partnerships with trusted community organizations to reach residents who have historically been excluded from decision-making. Language access, childcare, transportation support, and flexible meeting times must be part of this effort.

Caregiving, Aging, and Disability Justice

How will you ensure that professional and family caregivers are paid a living wage, programs supporting elders and persons with disabilities are fully funded and accessible, and that low-income seniors are protected from excessive utility costs (for example, through automatic circuit setters or other measures)? Please explain your approach and reasoning.

I will prioritize a county approach that treats aging, disability services, and caregiving as essential infrastructure. As someone who has been a caregiver for a family member for over 25 years, operates a private care services division within my management company, and serves as an Ambassador for the Wake County Senior Games, I understand firsthand the sacrifices families make and the urgent need to strengthen senior care resources and protections for elders and people with disabilities.

I will work to fund and expand access to programs that keep seniors and individuals with disabilities safe and stable—home- and community-based services, transportation, meals, case management, and housing supports—so people can age with dignity in their homes and communities.
